APF maintains perfect run in ANFA Women’s League, edge Army 3-1

KATHMANDU:  APF Football Club continued its dominant run in the ANFA Women’s League 2024 with a 3-1 win over Tribhuvan Army FC in an intense fourth-round encounter at ANFA Complex, Satdobato, on Saturday.

The victory solidified APF’s position at the top of the table, with 12 points from four consecutive wins.

The match saw a goalless first half as both teams displayed tight defensive play. APF, however, found their rhythm in the second half. Nisha Thokar broke the deadlock in the 60th minute, giving APF a crucial lead.

Despite trailing, Tribhuvan Army responded with an equaliser when Bimala Thapa scored in the 75th minute, raising hopes of a comeback. However, APF’s relentless pressure paid off when Anita Basnet restored their lead in the 85th minute. Preeti Rai sealed the victory with a goal in the 90th minute, ensuring a comfortable win for APF.

With this result, APF maintains its perfect record and looks set for a strong playoff run in the double round-robin format tournament. Tribhuvan Army FC remains in second place, tied with Nepal Police Club on seven points but ahead on goal difference. Nepal Police Club also has two wins, a loss, and a draw, keeping them firmly in the playoff race.

Bagmati stands fourth with three points from one win and three losses, while Waling Municipality is yet to secure a point, suffering four defeats in as many games.

The league’s double round-robin format will see each team play eight matches before the top four teams advance to the playoffs. The playoff stage will determine the two finalists who will compete for the title. With four rounds completed, APF’s current form makes them strong contenders for the championship.
