Tilaurakot Gold Cup from February 26
Kathmandu: The second edition of Chief Minister Kapilvastu Tilaurakot Gold Cup 2081 is all set to be held from February 26 to March 5 in Kapilvastu.
The event to be hosted by Kapilvastu District Football Association (DFA) will take place at Buddha Stadium in Bandgangha Municipality, announced Tilak Thapa, the president of Kapilvastu DFA at a press conference in Tripueshwar on Friday.
The tournament will see participation of eight teams including ‘A’ Division Clubs, local teams and a team from abroad. Machhindra Club, Sankata Club, Three Star Club and Himalayan Sherpa Club are the premier division teams participating in the event. Hosts Kapilvastu XI, Jhapa XI, Hanomi BFC (Chitwan) and Dzongri FC (Sikkim, India) are other sides to compete in the event, according to Thapa.
The event will be played in the knockout format with the winners receiving a purse of Rs11,11,111. The runners up will walk away with Rs5,55,555 along with trophies and certificates. Individual awards will be presented to the best forward, midfielder, defender and goalkeeper, each receiving Rs30,000. The player-of-the-match of every game will get Rs10,000. The expected expenses of the tournament is Rs11.8 million.
According to Bishnu Panthi, the chief advisor of the tournament and Parliament member of Lumbini Province, the Provincial government will provide financial support of at least Rs2 million while 10 municipalities of Kapilvastu District have also pledged funds for the tournament.
The objective of the tournament is to promote football and highlight Tilaurakot, the birthplace of Lord Guatam Buddha as a tourist destination.
