Lalitpur, Jhapa play 1-1 draw in dead rubber match

Kathmandu: Undefeated Lalitpur City FC played a 1-1 draw against Jhapa FC in a dead rubber match of the Nepal Super League (NSL), a franchise football tournament, at the Dasharath Stadium in Tripurshwar, Kathmandu, Wednesday.

Lalitpur had already qualified for Qualifier 1 of the playoffs and Jhapa, unlike them, were already eliminated from the top four race, mandatory position required for playoff spots.

With the outcome Lalitpur climbed on top of the standings with 12 points after completion of the league stage with three wins and draws each. They could be replaced from the summit if Dhangadhi beat or played a draw against Chitwan in their last league match on Thursday. Already eliminated, Jhapa wrapped up second from the bottom on five points with five draws and a defeat.

Nabin Lama gave lead to Lalitpur ahead in the 54th minute following a goalless first half. Nabin, left unmarked, converted with a one touch finish from the area. Jhapa’s captain Laken Limbu brought the game on level terms in the 65th minute after he turned Prabin Khulung’s pass.

Dhangadhi FC will vie against FC Chitwan in their last league game on Thursday. FC Chitwan will qualify for the playoffs replacing Kathmandu Rayzrs if they play a draw or beat Dhangadhi.
