Bangladesh outclass Nepal to retain SAFF U-20 Women’s title

Kathmandu: Striker Mosammat Sagorika scored all four goals for hosts Bangladesh as they cruised to a commanding 4–0 win over Nepal to secure the SAFF U-20 Women’s Championship title for a record fifth time on Monday.

Sagorika, also a member of the national team, gave the home side an early lead in the first half before completing the route with three second-half goals, asserting Bangladesh’s dominance in the subcontinental age-group tournament.

Nepal, having lost the first-leg clash 3–2 against Bangladesh, came into the decisive game needing a win to claim the title in the double round-robin format. But the hosts handed them another defeat, offering a harsh reality check.

Returning from a three-match suspension following the previous encounter with Nepal, Sagorika found the net in the 8th, 51st, 58th, and 77th minutes.

With the win, Bangladesh topped the table with a perfect 18 points from six matches, six points clear of runners-up Nepal. Nepal had earlier defeated Bhutan and Sri Lanka in both legs of the tournament.

Bhutan, who thrashed Sri Lanka 5–0 in the early kick off, finished third with six points. Sri Lanka exited the tournament without earning a single point, losing all six matches.

This marks Bangladesh’s second successive title and further strengthens their position as the most successful team in the competition’s history. In the previous edition, also held in Dhaka, Bangladesh and India were declared joint champions.
