Nepal advance to Super Three after Hong Kong vs Bahrain game washed out

Kathmandu: Nepal advanced to the Super Three stage of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Region Qualifier after the match between Hong Kong and Bahrain scheduled for Friday was abandoned due to downpours.

Although Nepal and Hong Kong were tied with five points each in Group ‘C’,  Nepal progressed by the virtue of winning more games at the league stage.

According to ICC rules, if the top two teams are tied on equal points the team with the most wins advance to the next stage.

Nepal have two wins, one defeat and one no-result among four matches. Hong Kong, playing an equal number of matches, have a win and three no-results.

If Hong Kong had won on Friday, they would have topped the group with six points and advanced. However, they were eliminated after the game was washed out.

The top teams from all three groups advanced to the Super Three stage including Thailand from Group ‘A’, United Arab Emirates (UAE) from Group ‘B’ and Nepal from Group ‘C’.

The top two teams from the Super Three stage after competing in the round robin format will earn a place for Global Qualifiers.
