Cricketer Lamichhane punished by CAN
Kathmandu: The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has imposed a one-match ban on national team member Sandeep Lamichhane.

According to CAN spokesperson Chhumbi Lama, the action was taken against Sandeep for violating the code of conduct during the Jai Trophy Men’s Elite Cup held last week in Janakpur and Birgunj.
Sandeep, the captain of Bagmati Province, had expressed dissatisfaction over umpire’s decision and vented his frustration on social media.
On January 10, Sandeep wrote on social media that the standard of Nepali umpiring needed improvement, stating that poor umpiring decisions adversely affect many players.
His post read: “I shouldn’t be saying this, but the standard of umpiring in Nepal needs significant improvement. It has remained stagnant for a long time, and if necessary steps are not taken, countless players may continue to suffer due to incorrect decisions in the future. We provide the captain’s report to the referee, yet I don’t see any changes happening. Enhancing the quality of umpiring is crucial for the fair growth of the game and the development of players. Hopefully, the concerned authorities will take notice and work towards necessary improvements. 🏏”
Sandeep also argued with the on field umpire, blaming that they ended the day’s play against Army early on.
Sandeep will now not be allowed to participate in one game of any upcoming competition organised by CAN. He has also been asked to provide an explanation regarding the incident.
