ANFA Acting President seeks clarification from General Secretary
Kathmandu: All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) Acting President Bir Bahadur Khadka has sought a written clarification from General Secretary Kiran Rai following his announcement on Tuesday that the proposed home-and-away format of the Martyrs Memorial ‘A’ Division League had been officially called off.
In a letter addressed to Rai, Acting President Khadka has directed him to submit a written explanation within three days.
Rai, during a press conference at the ANFA headquarters on Tuesday, had officially announced the cancellation of the home-and-away format top-tier league.
Khadka has assumed the role of acting president in the absence of President Pankaj Nembang, who is currently in Saudi Arabia to attend an Asian Football Confederation program.
In his letter, Khadka stated that the annual general assembly held in Dhulikhel on May 8 last year had approved a budget of Rs104.6 million for the top-tier league and set December 16 as the kickoff date.
“Under what authority did you amend the event approved by the annual general assembly?” Khadka questioned, adding that such a decision was made without informing the executive committee, raising concerns about procedural transparency within the organisation.
Khadka further stated that unilateral actions of this nature could undermine the institution’s credibility and the morale of players and stakeholders. He warned that if a written clarification is not submitted within the stipulated timeframe, disciplinary proceedings would be initiated in accordance with ANFA’s regulations.
The country’s top-tier league has remained stalled for more than two years, with the last edition held from March 3 to June 10, 2023.
