Kathmandu: Star singer cum performer Durgesh Thapa is set to perform during the opening ceremony of the third edition of Nepal Super League (NSL), a franchise football tournament, beginning on March 29 at the Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwar.

Thapa’s latest hit, ‘Dusman Hereko Heraai,’ is currently trending globally at number 77 on Youtube. The viewership of the song, which also features singers Ananda Karki, Samikshya Adhikari and Eleena Chauhan, has skyrocketed over the past few weeks.

“We have already signed a contract with Thapa. He is the current Number 1 singer of the country both in terms of Youtube view as well as his popularity throughout the country,” said a top ranked official of the Nepal Sports and Event Management (NSEM) who did not want to be named. He will be performing before the kick off and will sing three songs. 

This will mark Thapa’s debut performance at the Dasharath Stadium. “I’m elated to be performing at the Dasharath Stadium for the first time. I invite all my fans and supporters to join me for the opening ceremony of NSL,” said Thapa, who is known for his electrifying stage presence and has a massive fan following.

The city based franchise event NSL will see participation of seven teams unlike nine in the past edition after Birgunj United and Sporting Ilam withdrew participation. Lalitpur City FC and Kathmandu Rayzers will vie in the opening match. The top four teams after the round robin league will vie in the playoffs. Altogether 25 games including 21 league games and four playoffs will be played in the event.
