Jhapa end Chitwan’s winning run with late equaliser
Kathmandu: An injury time goal put a brake on Chitwan FC’s winning run in the third Nepal Super League as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Jhapa FC at Dasharath Stadium, Tripureshwar, Sunday.
Jhapa’s Nigerian forward Alhaji Gero scored from the spot in fading moments to cancel Torric Jebbrin’s first half lead for Chitwan.
Chitwan, who have defeated Pokhara Thunders 2-0 and Butwal Lumbini 1-0 in their first two matches, are on top of the standings with seven points. Jhapa have three points from as many games after their third draw in a row.
Chitwan broke deadlock in the 28th minute through Ghanaian midfielder Torric who quickly pounced in from close range capitalising on a defensive error.
Chitwan thought that they would walk away with three before referee Nabindra Maharjan awarded a penalty deep in stoppage time when Aron Thapa was recklessly fouled in the area by Niraj Chaudhary. Gero converted from the spot to maintain unbeaten streak for Jhapa.
Kathmandu Rayzrs will vie again Butwal Lumbini on Monday.
