Kathmandu: Legendary Brazilian footballer Roberto Carlos arrived in Kathmandu on Tuesday upon invitation of Nepal Super League as guest for the Qualifier match of the franchise football tournament.
He will watch the Qualifier 2 match between Dhangadhi FC and Pokhara Thunders on Wednesday at the Dasharath Stadium. The winner between them will vie against Lalitpur City FC in the final on Saturday.
The winner of the 2002 World Cup, the 51-year-old is regarded as one of the best left backs in the history of football, and remembered for a bending freekick against France.
Marking his debut for Brazil in 1992, Carlos appeared in the nation jersey in 125 matches and scored 10 goals before his international retirement in 2006.
He played professional football at Inter Milan and Real Madrid among others. One of the long serving players for Real Madrid, he won four La Liga titles and three Champions League crowns during his stint from 1996 to 2007.
