Police, New Diamond enter semifinal

Kathmandu: Nepal Police Club and New Diamond Academy entered into the semifinals of the Sher Bahadur Khadka Memorial National Women’s Volleyball Tournament at the Dasharath Stadium covered hall after playing their first games.
In the Group ‘B’ comprising only two teams, Police saw off New Diamond in straight sets of 25–14, 25–22, 25–13 but they both entered into semifinals. The departmental team secured semi-final spot as the winners and New Diamond as runners up of the group.
In Group ‘A’ match, defending champions Nepal APF Sports Club registered a comfortable 25–20, 25–13, 25–16 victory over Tribhuvan Army Club. APF are six‑time titleholders.
Two matches are scheduled for Thursday with Army taking on Everest Volleyball Club in the early morning before Everest vie against APF in the late afternoon game.
Meanwhile, the organisers Sher Bahadur Foundation feted Nepali international volleyball player Usha Bhandari and coach Jagadhish Bhatta with purse or Rs50,000 each. Bhandari’s parents received the award on behalf of their daughter.
The champions of the tournament participated by five teams will receive cash prize of Rs499,000 and the runners up will wake away with Rs250,000.The tournament’s most valuable player will earn Rs50,000, while the best setter, defender, server, libero, spiker, and coach will each receive Rs25,000 each.
