Gita’s fading moment goal secures Lumbini Cup for APF 

Kathmandu: A fading moment goal from Gita Rana gave Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Sports Club 1-0 victory over departmental rivals Nepal Police Club as they clinched the first International Invitational Lumbini Cup Women’s Football Tournament at the Nepalgunj Stadium in Banke, Friday.

A header goal by Gita in stoppage time separated the two teams as APF stamped their authority in women’s football claiming third title inside the last three months in the tournaments played outside the capital city.  

Winners APF received Rs505,555 and the runners-up Police walked away with Rs 250,000 along with trophies and medals.

Studded with nearly a dozen of Nepali international players, APF are also the champions of ANFA Women’s League organised by the football governing body of the country.  

APF defeated Karnali Province 6-0 in their first match and Rautahat District Football Association 3-0 in the semifinals in their march to the final. Police edged Siliguri FC of India 4-0 in their opening match and saw off departmental team Tribhuvan Army Club in a sudden death penalty shootout in the semifinals.

The tournament organised by Antaral in collaboration with the Banke District Football Association saw participation of eight teams including hosts Banke XI, APF, Police, Army, Karnali Province Football Association, Sudurpaschim Province Football Association, Rautahat District Football Association and Siliguri FC.
