Police dethrone APF to claim volleyball trophy

Kathmandu: Nepal Police Club clinched Sher Bahadur Khadka Memorial National Women’s Volleyball Tournament for the first time on Saturday dethroning Nepal APF Sports Club in straight sets.

Police defeated six-time champions APF in straight sets of 25–15, 25–23, 25–16 in the final of eighth edition of the annual tournament at the National Sports Council covered hall in Tripureshwor. Kamala Pun of  Police was declared the player-of-the-match.

APF had previously won the first five editions and the seventh edition of the tournament, while New Diamond had claimed the title in the sixth edition.

Nepal Police remained undefeated throughout the tournament without losing a single set.

New Diamond Academy secured third place honors defeating Tribhuvan Army Club 25–19, 25–12, 25–18. Salina Budha Magar of New Diamond was declared the the player-of-the-match.

The champions Police received a cash prize of Rs500,000 and the runners-up APF walked away with Rs250,000 while third placed New Diamond won Rs125,000.

Kamana Bista of  Police was declared the best player of the tournament and won Rs50,000 in addition to Kathmandu–Bangkok–Kathmandu air ticket.

Police players Punam Chand (blocker), Kamala Pun (setter), Shantikala Tamang (libero)and Rupesh Kumar Bista (coach) won the individual award along with APF duo Niruta Thagunna  (spiker) and Puja Chaudhary (server). Each category winner received a cash prize of Rs25,000 each.
