Army, Gandaki set up title decider in women’s National Hockey
Kathmandu: Tribhuvan Army Club and Gandaki Province will vie in a title decider in the women’s section of the National Hockey Tournament after the departmental side pulled off their second victory in the four-team contest on Saturday.
Army made their intent clear with a commanding 8–0 win over Bagmati Province at the Chyasal Football Stadium in Lalitpur. Kamala Chand, Nilima Pandey and Damara Bhatt scored a brace each for Army while Sunita Negi and Sita Maya Bal added one apiece.
Army and Gandaki have won two matches each sitting on top two positions with six points apiece, separated by goal differences. The top two sides at the completion of the four-team league will be crowned champions. Bagmati and Madhesh are yet to open accounts in the standings after facing defeats in their previous two games. The winners between Army and Gandaki will be crowned champions when they face off on Sunday in a much-anticipated clash.
Police enter semifinal in men’s category
The men’s event saw Nepal Police Club enter into the semifinal from Group ‘B’ after they saw off Nepal APF Club 3-0, thanks to a hat-trick from Nawaraj Khatri.
The outcome assured Police of top finish from the group with maximum six points from two matches. Karnali are second on three points while APF and Bagmati have one point each from two games. All three teams including Karnali, APF, and Bagmati could still join the semifinal from the group alongside Police.
In another match, Koshi and Gandaki shared a point each after a 3–3 draw stalemate. Laxman Samariya, Yogesh Kumar Barghare and Aryan Chaudhary were on scoresheet for Koshi. Deepak Tamang scored twice and Sangam Gharti Magar added for Gandaki.
The outcome assured Army’s place in the last four from Group ‘A’ with six points from two games. Koshi are behind them on four points followed by Gandaki on one point. Madhesh are yet to open accounts in the points table. Only one team between Koshi and Gandaki will join Army in the next round.
