Army storm into semifinal in National Hockey

Kathmandu: Departmental side Tribhuvan Army Club secured semifinal spot in the men’s category of the National Hockey Tournament on Sunday emerging unbeaten from Group ‘A’.

Playing on the rain-soaked turf at the Chyasal Football Stadium, Army registered a 3-0 victory over Koshi Province. Kashi Raj Rai, Dipendra Aire and Rajendra Karki each found the back of the net. Karki’s spirited performance earned him the player-of-the-match accolade.

The win added to Army’s dominant group-stage run having previously defeated Gandaki Province and Madhesh Province in convincing fashion.

Among three matches scheduled for Sunday, only two could be played due to rainfall and ground conditions. The men’s clash between Nepal Police Club and Bagmati Province, as well as the women’s encounter between Nepal Army and Gandaki Province were both postponed for Monday. 

There will be five games on Monday In the men’s category, Gandaki will face Madhesh Province while Karnali Province takes on Nepal APF Club. On the women’s side, Madhesh Province will vie against Bagmati Province.
