Kathmandu:  American Embassy were  crowned the champions of the first Diplomatic Cup Futsal Tournament on Sunday.

The American Embassy defeated SAARC Secretariat 3-1 in a penalty shootout in the final played at Dhuku Futsal Hub in Baluwatar. The regular time had finished in 4-4 tie.

In the semifinals, the American Embassy defeated the Indian Embassy 2-1 and SAARC Secretariat saw off the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ‘B’ 5-0.

Abdullah Najim of the runners up SAARC Secretariat was named the tournament’s best player while Shiva Baniya of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ‘B’ won highest scorer award and Nawaraj of winners American Embassy was named the best goalkeeper.

The tournament, held on Thursday and Sunday, featured 13 teams from different diplomatic missions along with two teams from the host Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
