Scotland post 297-run target against Nepal in WCL 2

Kathmandu: Hosts Scotland set a challenging target of 297 runs in their Tri-Series match of the ICC World Cup League 2 at Forthill, Dundee, on Monday.

Opener Charlie Tear and middle-order batter Finlay McCreath both scored half-centuries to anchor Scotland’s innings, finishing at 296-7 in the allotted 50 overs.

Charlie played a knock of 80 runs off 72 balls, smashing 12 boundaries and a six before being caught by wicketkeeper Aasif Sheikh off Karan KC’s delivery. Finlay added a steady 55 off 67, including three fours and a six, before falling to medium-pacer Sompal Kami, caught by captain Rohit Paudel.

Captain Richie Berrington contributed a solid 40 runs from 46 balls, hitting three boundaries and two sixes before Aasif once again claimed a catch off Karan’s bowling.

Wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Cross (39 off 56), Brandon McMullen (19 off 31), and Michael Leask (18 off 15) also chipped in with valuable runs, while Mark Watt (10) and Jack Jarvis (4) remained unbeaten at the close.

On the bowling front, Nepal’s pace duo Karan KC and Sompal Kami, along with spinner Rijan Dhakal, shared two wickets each, while Sandeep Lamichhane picked up one scalp. KC was particularly impressive, finishing with figures of 10-1-43-2. Sompal conceded 66 runs in his 10-over spell, while Rijan gave away 78 runs in his quota.
