Nepali girls lose to Bangladesh second time in SAFF U-17

Kathmandu: Nepal suffered their second defeat to Bangladesh in the SAFF U-17 Women’s Championship losing 4-1 on Wednesday at the Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu, Bhutan.

Sauravi Akanda Prity starred for Bangladesh with a hat-trick following an opening goal by Thuinuye Marma. Nepal’s captain Bhumika Budathoki scored the lone goal for her side, who conceded twice in each half.

With this third loss in four matches, Nepal remain third in the four-team table with just three points—effectively ending their hopes of clinching the title.

Earlier, Nepal had lost 3-0 to Bangladesh in the first leg and suffered a heavy 7-0 defeat to India in their opener. Their only win came against hosts Bhutan edging them 2-1. Meanwhile, India—set to face Bhutan in the day’s late fixture—lead the standings with nine points from three consecutive victories.

Bangladesh opened the scoring in the 39th minute through Thuinuye Marma. Just before halftime, Sauravi doubled the lead in first-half stoppage time. Nepal responded immediately, with Bhumika reducing the deficit 2-1 before the break.

Sauravi struck again in the 71st minute and completed her hat-trick three minutes from time sealing a dominant win for Bangladesh.

Nepal will next face India on Friday before concluding their campaign against Bhutan on Sunday.
