Xterra Nepal on November 29 in Pokhara
Kathmandu: The second edition of Xterra Nepal, an adventure sports showcase, is set to take place on November 29 in Pokhara, Kaski.
Organised by Periwinkles Service Pvt Ltd, the event is part of the internationally recognised Xterra Planet brand, known globally for promoting and hosting off-road triathlons, trail runs and other adventure sports.
Organising a press conference in Tripureshwar on Sunday, Xterra Nepal director Dipesh Ghaley announced that this year’s edition will feature competitions under five categories: full-distance triathlon, sprint-distance triathlon, duathlon, mixed relay and trail run.
Swimming events will be held at Begnas Lake, while the biking and running segments will take place around its scenic periphery.
The full-distance triathlon will include a 1.5 km swim, 28 km mountain biking (14 km × two laps), and a 12 km trail run. The sprint-distance triathlon comprises a 750 m swim, 14 km mountain bike ride, and a 6 km trail run.
The duathlon involves a 6 km trail run, 14 km mountain bike segment, and another 6 km trail run. The mixed relay will feature a 750 m swim, 14 km bike ride, and a 6 km trail run. The trail run category includes 12 km and 6 km races.
This year, the organisers expect participation from 40 international athletes representing France, the United States, China, England, New Zealand, Austria, Norway, Japan, Denmark, Canada, Germany, Russia, the Czech Republic, India and more. Additionally, around 100 Nepali runners are expected to compete.
Registrations remain open until November 25. Winners will receive attractive prizes, including total cash purse of Rs 240,000.
According to Rajesh Lama, the brand face of Xterra Nepal, the aim of hosting the event is to promote Nepal as a premier destination for adventure sports, leveraging its natural landscapes ideal for such activities. “We have also set a goal to organise a World Trail Race within the next five years,” added Ghaley.
