Chitwan Rhinos put brakes on Biratnagar Kings’ winning streak

Kathmandu: Chitwan Rhinos pulled off a resounding 48-run victory over Biratnagar Kings, ending their winning streak after fourth match in the Nepal Premier League T20 at TU Stadium on Wednesday.

Sent in to bat first, the Rhinos posted a challenging total of 174-5, thanks to a quickfire half-century from Ravi Bopara, who slammed his third fifty of the NPL in as many games.

In reply, the Kings lost wickets in quick succession and were bowled out for 126 runs in 16.5 overs after Ranjit Kumar shone with the ball, claiming a superb 5-21.

The defeat dropped the Kings to second place with six points from four matches, behind leaders Sudurpaschim Royals on net run rate. The Royals remain the only unbeaten side and have a game in hand.

The Rhinos, meanwhile, secured their second win in three matches to move to four points.

Middle-order batter Bopara played a blistering 38-ball 65 studded with three boundaries and four towering sixes. He fell to Subham Ranjane, caught by Sam Heazlett in the final over.

Saif Zaib contributed a valuable 32 off 30 balls, including three boundaries and a six. Dev Khanal added 28 off 22, while Kushal Malla (20 off 14) and opener Dawid Malan (17 off 9) also chipped in for the Rhinos.

Kings captain Sandeep Lamichhane picked up 2-24 while Marchant de Lange returned 2-27 from their four-over spells.

Chasing the target, the Kings came under early pressure, losing openers Lokesh Bam (7) and George Munsey (4), along with Naren Bhatta (4) and Basir Ahmad (0), slumping to 47-7 by the 11th over.

Number seven batter Marchant de Lange top-scored with 39 off 22 before being bowled by Kamal Airee.

Tailender Pratish GC smashed a late 30 off 12 balls, including 22 runs in the 17th over off captain Kushal Malla—striking three sixes and a four—before being dismissed on the fifth delivery.

Spinner Ranjit Kumar was the standout performer with the ball, returning excellent figures of 5-21 from four overs, while Kamal Airee claimed two wickets.
