Nepal hopeful of more opportunities against cricket giants

Mumbai: Nepal captain Rohit Paudel has expressed disappointment over the lack of exposure against top international sides despite Nepal’s growing reputation on the global stage.

Nepal gained worldwide attention in the previous edition of the T20 World Cup after narrowly losing to South Africa by one run in St Vincent. Their performance drew praise from several international cricket icons and institutions, raising expectations that Nepal would secure more fixtures against major teams.

However, Nepal have since played only one series against a Test-playing nation, hosting the West Indies in Sharjah last year.

“We did not get the exposure and experience we expected after the 2024 World Cup,” Paudel said. “It is very important for us to test our skills regularly against strong teams.”

“If we get opportunities to play big teams consistently — maybe not six or seven series, but one or two each year — that would be very beneficial. I hope that changes after this World Cup,” he added, noting that such opportunities would also contribute to the global growth of cricket.
