Anjana’s heroics give Nepal shootout win over India
Kathmandu: Substitute goalkeeper Anjana Rana Magar saved two penalties for Nepal as they edged India 3–0 in a tiebreaker at an international exhibition match on Wednesday.
Anjana entered as a stoppage-time substitute for goalkeeper Usha Nath and played a crucial role in securing the victory. The clash at Sikkim’s Paljor Stadium ended 1–1 after regulation 90 minutes.
In the shootout, Sabita Rana Magar, Rashmikumari Ghising and Nisha Thokar successfully converted their penalties for Nepal while Anita Basnet missed the target.
India, however, failed to score from the spot. Anjana brilliantly denied attempts from Priyadarshini and Astam Oraon while Santoshi’s effort went off target.

Earlier, India had taken the lead at the half an hour mark through Soumya Guguloth, who capitalised on a poor clearance by defender Nisha Thokar. Nepal hit back in first-half stoppage time as Rashmi Kumari Ghising headed home captain Anita Basnet’s curling corner.
Nepal had defeated India 2–1 on Monday in Shillong before losing 3-0 against Iran on Friday, during FIFA International Window games.
