‘Jaar’ trailer starring Saugat Malla, Anoop Bikram released

Kathmandu: The trailer of Nepali language movie Jaar, set to be released on May 9 has been made public on Thursday.

Production company Fairy Tale Pictures has launched the trailer marking the beginning of the film’s promotion. The movie is based on a historical story by renowned literary figure Indra Bahadur Rai.

Actors Saugat Malla, Anoop Bikram Shahi and Geetanjali Thapa are in the lead roles. The movie is based on true events that took place in Nepali society during the 19th century.

According to the production team, the trailer portrays the period’s societal backdrop authentically. Speaking at the trailer launch event, director Phurba Tsering Lama expressed pride in bringing a historic literary work to the screen. “I hope we have done justice to the story of Jaar,” said Lama. “Portraying a story read in a book to the screen is a challenge in itself, but we’ve created Jaar with deep respect for the emotions and essence of Indra Bahadur Rai’s work.”

Actors Saugat and Anoop Bikram Shahi said it was anhonor to be part of a film that captures a piece of history.

Actress Geetanjali Thapa, who won the National Award for Best Actress in India for Liar’s Dice, has her films screened at major international festivals including Toronto, Busan, Los Angeles, and New York. She also appeared in the Netflix series Sacred Games.

The entire filming of Jaar took place in Sikkim. The film is a collaborative production involving Hope Reels, LA Seven Shorts, Baral Studio, and Kewa Productions. Neeraj Rai, Nursang Bhutia, Jyoti Kshetri and Pema Rinzing Lepcha are the executive producers.

Saravanan Elavarasu is the cinematographer of the movie edited by Akhilesh Rai. Apple Entertainment, Reach Entertainment, and FD Company have acquired the film’s distribution rights in Nepal. The international distribution will be handled by Seven Seas Cinema, and OSR Digital is the digital partner.
