Police edge Army on penalties to set up APF title clash

Kathmandu: Nepal Police Club edged Tribhuvan Army Club 2-1 in a penalty shootout during second qualifier match of  ANFA National Women’s League on Monday to set up final against Nepal APF Club.

 

The fate of the finalist was decided from the spot following a goalless draw in the regulation 90 minutes and an additional 30 minutes of extra time.

 

 

Police custodian Usha Nath played an instrumental role in the shootout scoring from the spot and making three crucial saves. Along with Usha, Birsana Chaudhary converted their penalties for Police. Army goalkeeper Anjana Rana Magar denied three strikes from the spots taken by Samjhana Lawati, Samiksha Ghimire and Niru Thapa.

 

Only Anjana Rana Magar managed to convert from spot for Army . Usha Nath saved shots from Chandra Bhandari, Anita Lamjel, and Bimala Bik, while Bimala Chaudhary fired off the target.

 

Tribhuvan Army Club missed several opportunities in the first half. In the 11th minute, Usha Nath saved a strike from Bimala Chaudhary following a pass from Chandra Bhandar. Four minutes later, Bimala’s header failed to reach an unmarked Amisha.

 

In the 30th minute, Army tried to capitalize on Police’s defensive errors with Bimala firing a low shot. But Usha made a brilliant save to deny them. During injury time, Usha easily saved a 20-yard strike from Chandra.

 

The second half saw Police create a couple of scoring chances.

 

The final will be played on Wednesday.
