Surya Nepal NPGA Match Play tees off Tuesday

Kathmandu: The Surya Nepal NPGA Match Play, the sixth event under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2024-25, is all set to tee off at the Royal Nepal Golf Club on Tuesday.

A total of 16 pros based on the Order of Merit of the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2023-24 will take part in the tournament to be played under match-play format.

The tournament carries a cash purse of Rs 250,000. The winner will receive Rs 60,000 while the runner-up will take home Rs 42,000. The third and fourth placed pros will get Rs 32,000 and Rs 24,000 respectively. The four pros who failed to progress beyond quarter-finals will get Rs 11,000 each, and the eight players who lose in first round will get Rs 6,000 each.

As per the tournament regulation, top ranked pro in the last year’s rankings Bhuvan Nagarkoti will begin the campaign with a match against No 16 Pashupati Sharma, while No 2 Niraj Tamang will play against No 15 Surya Prasad Sharma. In other matches No 3 Dinesh Prajapati will vie against No 14 Ramesh Adhikari and No 4 Rabi Khadka has been paired against No 13 Tanka Bahadur Karki among others.

The first round winners will advance to the quarter-finals. The first round, quarter-finals, semi-finals and third-place playoff matches will be played over 18 holes while the two finalists will compete in a 36-hole contest. The first round matches will be played on Tuesday and the quarter-finals and semi-finals on Wednesday. The third-place match and final are slated for Thursday.
