Nepal, Kuwait to vie in final after Hong Kong clash interrupted by rain

Kathmandu: Nepal and Kuwait entered into the final of the Hong Kong Quadrangular Twenty20I Series on Saturday after the last league match   between hosts Hong Kong and Nepal ended with no result following downpour midway through first innings.

Hong Kong, put in to bat first, were 68-3 in nine overs when the rain interrupted the play forcing the umpires to call off the game with both sides walking away with a point each.

The final and third place playoff match will be played on Sunday.

The outcome meant Nepal finished the league stage on top of the table with five points from three games while Kuwait, who earlier edged Qatar by six wickets, secured second position with four points from equal three games. Kuwait’s only defeat came against Nepal on Thursday going down by six wickets.

Hong Kong collected three points from as many games to wrap up the league stage in third position. Their only victory came against Qatar while they lost to Kuwait by four wickets. Qatar finished winless and will vie against Hong Kong in the third place playoff game.

Zeeshan Ali scored a brisk 30 off 22 balls, including three boundaries and a six. He was well-supported by Anshy Rath (17 off 12) and Nizakat Khan (13 off 16), but both fell at crucial junctures, stalling momentum.

Lalit Rajbanshi led Nepal’s bowling attack with figures of 3-0-19-2, claiming the key wickets of Zeeshan Ali and Nizakat Khan in the ninth over. Nandan Yadav chipped in with one wicket, while Rijan Dhakal and Sompal Kami remained wicketless.
