Yubak, Deepshikha claim Gaughat Green Run

Kathmandu: Yubak Raj Budha and Deepshikha Shahi clinched the titles of the second Gaughat Green Run, an event organised to raise awareness of Banke locals about the global issue of climate change.

This year Yuvak Raj from Jumla in men’s 5km and Deepshikha from Kohalpur, Banke, in women’s 2.5km women’s emerged overall champions held in Sitapur, Khajura Rural Municipality.

Arvind Kumar Yadav from Narainapur secured second place while Yamraj Khatri from Jumla finished third in the men’s event.

Similarly, Swastika Shahi of Kohalpur and Radha Sunar from Bardiya earned second and third places respectively in the women’s section.

In the 5 km school boys’ category, Dhaniram Khatik from Gyanodaya Secondary School took the top spot while Nikesh Khatri of Janata Secondary School and Yusuf Bik of Amar Secondary School came second and third respectively.

In the 2.5 km school girls’ race, Binisa LG from Amar Secondary School took first position followed by Prashansa BC of Yogini Secondary School and Binita Pulami of Amar Secondary School.

The winners received cash prizes and medals from Khajura Rural Municipality chairman Dambar Bik Tufan, Lumbini Province Sports Council member secretary Tiran Gautam, Miss Nepal World 2023 Srichha Pradhan, KL Dugar Group CEO Pradeep Chhajed and Ward Chairperson Dhanram Oli among others.

The Green Run was launched last year as a sister event of the annual Dhara Nepalgunj Marathon. On Monday, Miss Nepal World 2023 Srichha Pradhan and Commonwealth Games 2010 gold medalist John Kelai were officially appointed goodwill ambassadors for the marathon.

The 11th edition of the Dhara Nepalgunj Marathon, certified by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) is scheduled for November 21.
