Basir’s heroics lift Biratnagar Kings to thrilling win in over Karnali Yaks

Kathmandu: Middle-order batter Basir Ahamad led a remarkable fightback for Biratnagar Kings as they snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, securing a nail-biting three-wicket win over Karnali Yaks in a Nepal Premier League T20 clash on Friday.

Basir struck a magnificent unbeaten half-century, finishing with a match-winning six as the Kings scored 163-7 with one ball to spare in their chase after Yaks posted a challenging 160-3 under the floodlights at TU Stadium, Kirtipur.

The victory put the Kings back on track after their loss to Chitwan Rhinos in the previous fixture. With four wins from five matches, they now sit second with eight points, edging closer to a playoff spot.

The Yaks, meanwhile, remain in trouble, sitting fifth with just two points from four games and only one win to their name.

Chasing the competitive target after the Yaks opted to bat first, the Kings made a shaky start, losing openers George Munsey (0) and Lokesh Bam (6) cheaply.

The pressure grew as top-order batters Sam Heazlett (16 off 13), Sahil Patel (19 off 24) and Marchant de Lange (2) also fell in quick succession, leaving the Kings reeling at 65-6.

Coming in at No. 5, Basir held firm, crafting an unbeaten 65 off 43 balls, decorated with three boundaries and towering sixes each.

He got crucial support from Narayan Joshi, who smashed a brisk 25 off 16 and shared a vital 69-run stand for the sixth wicket.

Captain Sandeep Lamichhane remained unbeaten on six.

For the Yaks, captain Sompal Kami claimed 2-33 from four overs, while Gulshan Jha claimed 2-20 from three.

Earlier, opener Priyank Panchal provided a solid start for the Yaks with a fluent 63 off 47 balls, hitting six boundaries and two sixes before being run out by wicketkeeper Sahil Patel in the 17th over.

He was well supported by William Bosisto, who played a patient, run-a-ball 48 not out that included two boundaries.

Panchal and Bosisto combined for a strong 96-run partnership for the second wicket.

Gulshan Jha added late acceleration with a 10-ball 20, featuring two fours and a six, before falling LBW to Lamichhane.

Najibullah Zadran contributed an unbeaten 12 off six balls.

For the Kings, Marchant de Lange and Sandeep Lamichhane took a wicket each.
