Army, Gandaki set up title clash in men’s hockey
Kathmandu: Tribhuvan Army Club and Gandaki Province set up the summit clash in the men’s category of the National Hockey Tournament on Tuesday.
Army delivered a dominant performance to thump Nepal APF Club 6–0 in the first semifinal at the Chyasal Football Ground, Lalitpur.
Kashi Raj Rai scored a hat-trick while Rajendra Karki netted twice and Pradeep Rajbanshi added another goal. Dev Singh Dhami of Army was named player-of-the-match.
In the other semifinal, Gandaki edged out Nepal Police 2-1 in a penalty shootout, following a goalless draw in regulation time. Josan Rai of Gandaki was named player-of-the-match.
Sangam Gharti Magar and Ashim Bahik scored for Gandaki in the shootout while Bivek Gurung, Kushal Nepali, and Sonu Khan missed their chances. Suraj Bohora was the only player to convert from the spot for Police with Nawaraj Khatri, Suresh Joshi, Ayush Shah, and Sunil Rana all failed to score.
Army, who defeated Gandaki on Monday to claim the women’s trophy, could secure a second title if they defeat the men’s team on Wednesday.
The final match of the tournament organised by Nepal Hockey Association will be played on Wednesday.
