ANFA calls footballers for dialogue

Kathmandu: The All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) has invited representatives of the agitating footballers for talks on Monday.

Nepali football players, led by the Nepal Football Players Association (NFPA), had organised a street protest on November 6 to express frustration over the football governing body’s reluctance to resume the Martyrs Memorial ‘A’ Division League — the country’s premier football competition — which has been stalled for nearly three years.

In a press statement, ANFA said it is “committed to the overall development and professionalisation of Nepali football and is sensitive to the sentiments expressed during the protest.”

During the protest, players led by the NFPA gathered outside ANFA’s main gate but were barred from entering the premises. A heavy security presence — including personnel from Nepal Police, the Armed Police Force, and private guards — created a tense atmosphere.

In a symbolic act of protest, the footballers hung their medals on the ANFA gate, expressing their discontent with what they describe as the administration’s apathy toward Nepali football.
