14 athletes get NOC scholarships ahead of international games
Nepali athletes with certificates of their scholarships.
Kathmandu: Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) has announced scholarships for 14 athletes from 10 different sports.
Organising a press conference on Friday, NOC said it has signed agreements with the athletes, their families and respective associations or federations to support their preparation for the Los Angeles Olympic Games, the Aichi–Nagoya Asian Games and the Youth Olympic Games.
Eight athletes have been selected for the Los Angeles Olympics including badminton’sPrince Dahal, cyclist Usha Khanal, golfer Sadbhav Acharya, judoka Manita Shrestha Pradhan, table tennis player Ivana Thapa, tennis player Shivali Gurung, sport climber Tenzing Rai and swimmer Ervin Shrestha.
Each of the eight athletes will receive USD 1,125 every four months from September 2025 through their respective federation. The scholarships will continue until the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.
Similarly, five athletes have been selected for the Aichi–Nagoya Asian Games: archer Tilak Pun Magar, boxer Chandra Bahadur Thapa, karate players Erika Gurung and Sanumaya Thing, and wushu athlete Sushmita Tamang.
Wushu athlete Rashmi Tamang has been selected for the Youth Olympic Games. NOC President Jeevan Ram Shrestha said athletes selected for the Asian Games and the Youth Olympics will receive a scholarship of Rs 50,000 each, which will continue until their respective events.
According to the NOC, the scholarships aim to provide international competition exposure, high-performance training, and livelihood support.
