Nepal eliminated from Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier, lose to Scotland by 72-run

Kathmandu: Hosts Nepal were eliminated from the group stage of the Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier after suffering a heavy 72-run defeat to Scotland in their final Group ‘B’ match on Monday.

The win lifted Scotland to the top of the group with six points from four matches while Nepal finished fourth with two points. Only the top three teams from each group advance to the Super Six stage.

The Netherlands have already secured qualification by winning all three of their matches, while Thailand (four points), with a game in hand, also progressed following Scotland’s victory.

Sent to bat first, Scotland were bowled out for 140 in 20 overs before dismissing Nepal for just 68 in 13.5 overs.

Nepal’s batting collapsed as only three players reached double figures—Bindu Rawal (14), Rubina Chhetry (10), and Roma Thapa (not out 14).

Abtaha Maqsood led Scotland’s bowling attack with figures of 3-14, including a maiden over, while Kathryn Bryce and Katherine Fraser took two wickets each.

Earlier, Scotland recovered from a shaky start, thanks to Priyanaz Chatterji’s unbeaten 45 off 28 balls. Alisa Lister (22), Sarah Bryce (18), Megan McCool (17), and Rachel Slater (11) also made valuable contributions.

For Nepal, Manisha Upadhyaya impressed with 4-17, while Rubina Chhetry claimed 3-23.

From Group ‘A’, Bangladesh have already qualified for the Super Six after winning all four matches. Ireland, USA, Papua New Guinea, and Namibia remain in contention for the remaining spots. The top four teams from the Super Six will qualify for the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup finals.
