APF too hot to handle for Police in Women’s League

KATHMANDU: APF Football Club continued their dominant form with a 2-0 victory over Nepal Police Club in the second round of the ANFA Women’s League super stage at the ANFA ground in Satdobato on Monday.

The result extended APF’s winning streak, bringing their tally to a flawless 21 points from seven matches.

The match started with APF asserting their authority early on. Rashmi Kumari Ghising opened the scoring in the 17th minute, delivering a precise header finish that put APF ahead. Despite efforts from Police to regroup, they struggled to break through APF’s solid defense.

In the second half, APF introduced Anita KC as a substitute in the 60th minute, replacing Man Maya Dhami. The change paid off immediately, as Anita doubled APF’s lead with yet another header in the 64th minute.

Police, with 11 points from eight matches, failed to find a response, leaving them with a challenging path ahead.

Now APF and Army will vie in Qualifier 1, where the two top teams of the tournament will face off for a direct spot in the final. Army, currently second with 16 points from seven matches, will look to challenge APF’s unbeaten run in what promises to be a thrilling encounter. The losing team from Qualifier 1 will still have a second chance to make the final by competing in Qualifier 2.

Meanwhile, Police will face Bagmati in the eliminator round. Bagmati sits fourth in the standings with just four points, while Police will hope to capitalise on their experience to secure a win. The victor of the eliminator will then battle the loser of Qualifier 1 in Qualifier 2 for a place in the final.

The bottom-placed Waling team, with no points from seven matches, is out of contention. As the playoffs approach, APF remains the team to beat, but with Army in strong form and Police eager to prove their mettle, the league promises an exciting finish
