National Under 20 Women’s Rugby on Feb 19 & 20

Kathmandu: Nepal Women’s Rugby Club (NWRC) is set to organise National Under 20 Women’s Rugby Sevens Championship on February 19 and 20 at Madhyapur ground in Bhaktapur. 

 

The Championship will feature eight teams including six provincial teams and two clubs, announced Elisa Thapa, the president of NWRC at a press conference in Tripureshwar on Sunday. 

 

The event will be held in the league cum knockout format after dividing the teams into two groups. The top two teams of each group will progress into semifinals.

 

Bagmati, Gandaki, hosts Women’s Rugby Club and Madhesh Province were drawn in group ‘A’ while Himalayan Tiger Rugby Club, Salesh Youth Club (Koshi), Sudurpaschim Province and Karnali Province were drawn in Group ‘B’ during the draw held at the press conference. 

 

“The championship is organised with the view to provide exposure to youth players and prepare the team for upcoming 10th National Games,” said Elisa Thapa. 

 

The winners will get a purse of Rs50,000 and the runners up will get Rs30,000. The expected expenses of the championship is Rs2.5 million out of which Bagmati Province Sports Development Committee has pledged to provide Rs2 million.
