Dhangadhi rope in Spanish goalkeeper Birrou

Kathmandu: Dhangadhi FC has signed Spanish goalkeeper Walid Birrou as their fourth foreign recruit for the third edition of the Nepal Super League (NSL), a franchise football tournament, scheduled to kick off from March 29.

Issuing a press statement on Wednesday, Dhangadhi announced that the Spanish will take charge of the post in the seven-team contest. Birrou was a member of the Kaya FC in the last season that clinched the Philippines Football League, the premier division league. 

Birrou also holds the experience of playing in Gibraltar’s top division as well as in the second divisions in Iceland and Morocco. He has also played in the US and Spain the lower tier and semi-professional clubs.

Dhangadhi, the runners up in the last two editions, have already signed Moroccan midfielder Mohammed El Jaaouni, Nigerian star Olawale Afeez, and Lebanese star forward Ahmed Hijazi. Olowale and Hijazi had played for Dhangadhi in the previous season.

Dhangadhi have named Kritish Ratna Chhunju as their marquee player. Devendra Tamang, George Prince Karki, Pasang Lama, Bibek Paudel, Jiyarath Sheikh, Ranadeep Paudel, Ram Chandra Waji, Prashant Laksam, Rohan Khadka, Amrit Shrestha, Harish Raj Bhatt, Santosh Mahat, and Ashok Khawas are other players in the squad.

Earlier, Dhangadhi has announced the appointment of Spain’s Juan Manuel Martinez Saiz, UEFA pro license holder, as their head coach.

Dhangadhi has named Nepal’s international cricketer Dipendra Singh Airee is their brand ambassador.
