Bagmati Warriors Powerlifting on Friday & Saturday 

Kathmandu: Lalitpur District Powerlifting Association is organising Bagmati Warriors Bagmati Province Level Powerlifting Championships on Friday and Saturday at the covered hall of Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwar, Kathmandu. 

The event to be organised under coordination of Nepal Powerlifting Association (NPA) will feature five weight categories in men’s section and four in women’s section, said NPA president Sundar Bhusal at a press conference on Wednesday. 

The male players will compete in U-59kg, U-66kg, U-74kg, U-83kg, and above 83kg weight divisions. The female weight categories include U-57kg, U-63kg, U-69kg and above 69kg.  

Apart from the weight categories, the lifters will also vie in masters above 50 years age, women’s above 40 years age, junior below 23 years age and sub junior below 18 years age category.   

“Though it is a Bagmati Province level competition, lifters from all seven provinces are eligible to participate in the event. But they must register from a Bagamati based club for participation,” said Bijay Deula, the president of Lalitpur District Powerlifting Association. 

The Championships will also serve as one of the qualifiers for Asian Powerlifting Championships to be organised in Kathmandu in August.  

“We have a lot of talented powerlifters in the country and we are hopeful that the Championships will serve as a platform to provide them much needed exposure. The planned Asian Championships is also a platform to showcase our talents at global level,” said NPA president Bhusal.   

The event carries total cash prize of Rs825,000. The top three positioned players of each weight category will get a purse of Rs20,000, Rs15,000 and Rs10,000 respectively. The winners, runners up and second runners up in the age group events will get purse of Rs30,000, Rs15,000 and Rs10,000 respectively. The expected cost of the event is Rs2.5 million.
