Kathmandu: Scotland captain Richie Berrington led from the front with a brilliant century, powering the home team to a formidable total of 323 runs against Nepal in the Scotland Tri-Series of the ICC World Cup League 2 at Forthill, Dundee, on Sunday.
Opting to bat first, Scotland posted 323-6 in their allotted 50 overs. Berrington anchored the innings with a composed 102 off 114 deliveries, laced with six boundaries and four sixes, before being run out.
His century was well-supported by half-centuries from Charlie Tear and Michael Leask.
Tear, opening the innings, scored an impressive 68 off 65 balls, including nine boundaries, before falling to spinner Lalit Rajbanshi.
Leask, batting at number seven, played a blistering knock of 96 from just 62 balls, smashing 12 fours and three sixes, narrowly missing out on a well-deserved century.
Nepal made an early impact by reducing Scotland to 25 for 2, dismissing opener George Munsey for a duck and Brandon McMullen for just 5. Both were sent back by medium pacer Karan KC, who gave Nepal a promising start.
However, a solid 94-run partnership for the third wicket between Tear and Berrington stabilized the innings for Scotland.
In the closing overs, Mark Watt added an unbeaten 21 off 9 balls while Finlay McCreath chipped in with 17 off 23.
Nepal’s bowling effort was led by Karan KC and Dipendra Singh Airee, who claimed two wickets each, while Lalit Rajbanshi picked up one.
Nepal had won their first two matches of the series defeating Scotland by one wicket and the Netherlands by five wickets.
