Nepal storm into East Zone Cup semifinal
Kathmandu: Nepal’s U-16 men’s cricket team stormed into the semifinals of the ACC Men’s U-16 East Zone Cup with a commanding 370-run victory over Indonesia to register their third victory in a row at the Selangor Turf Club in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday.
With the emphatic win, Nepal secured a semifinal berth with one group match still to play, having accumulated six points from three matches. Earlier, Nepal had defeated Japan by nine wickets and Singapore by six wickets.
Nepal’s victory also confirmed Singapore’s spot in the last four, as they finished their group stage with six points from four games in Group ‘A’. Indonesia, Japan, and Bhutan have all been eliminated from semifinal contention, despite a match remaining.

Sent to bat first, Nepal racked up a mammoth total of 420-5 in 50 overs, powered by a century from Prashiddha Jaishi and three half-centuries. Captain Bipin Sharma then spearheaded the bowling attack with a six-wicket haul, as Indonesia were bundled out for just 50 runs in 24.3 overs.
Prashiddha led the charge with a brilliant 132 off 114 balls, including 15 boundaries and a six. His opening partner Parimarjan Yadav smashed a blistering 71 off 28 balls, hitting four fours and eight sixes. The pair put on a 130-run stand for the opening wicket before Parimarjan was dismissed on the final ball of the 10th over.
Raunak Srivastav added 88 from 71 deliveries, including eight fours and two sixes while Joy Thapa contributed 57 off 44 with seven boundaries. Sugam Budhathoki (39 off 34) and Roshan Shahi (10 off 9) remained unbeaten at the close of the innings.
For Indonesia, I Ketut Darma Putra P claimed two wickets while Rayan Riza, Mahendra Aji, and Kavin Neeraj Chadda took one each.
In reply, Indonesia faltered early and never recovered. Only two batters—Kavin Neeraj (15 off 34) and Davit Nanda (14 off 31)—reached double figures.
Nepal captain Bipin Sharma delivered a sensational spell, finishing with figures of 6 for 12 from 7.3 overs, including two maiden overs. Sugam Budhathoki and Shubham Khanal chipped in with a wicket apiece.
Nepal will face Bhutan in their final group match on Tuesday.
In Group ‘B’, Myanmar signed off from the tournament with a 10-wicket win over the Maldives on Sunday. Chasing a modest 33-run target, Myanmar reached the total in just 4.1 overs, securing their only win of the campaign.
