Kathmandu: The Sambriddhi Open Women’s Basketball Tournament is set to tip off on Wednesday at the covered hall of Dasharath Stadium, Tripureshwar.

Organised by Angels’ Heart National School, the tournament will feature four teams each in the senior and junior divisions.

In the senior category, Xavier International College, Saipal Academy, Training Ground Sports, and Grande Starts will compete in a double round-robin league format.

The junior (U-16) division will include Boudha Meridian School, RIBS, Valley Public School, and Swarnim School, according to Angels’ Heart principal Tak Bahadur Thapa, who announced the details at a press conference. The junior event will follow a league-cum-knockout format, with all four teams advancing to the semifinals.

The nine-day tournament will be held under the technical support of the Nepal Basketball Association (NeBA). There will be no entry fees for participating teams. The top three teams in the senior category will receive cash prizes of Rs 40,000, Rs 20,000, and Rs 10,000, respectively.

The estimated budget for the event is around Rs 700,000.
