ANFA to resume ‘A’ Division League within 4-month
Kathmandu: All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) and top-division clubs have agreed to organise Martyr’s Memorial ‘A’ Division League within the next 120 days.
The understanding was reached during a joint meeting convened by Minister for Youth and Sports Bablu Gupta on Tuesday at the ministry, which was attended by ANFA officials and representatives of A Division clubs and players.
ANFA proposed to kick off the league — which has remained stalled for almost three years — in the last week of February, following Minister Gupta’s instruction to present a specific date.
Earlier, on October 14, ANFA had announced
cancellation of the 14-team ‘A’ Division League
after an agreement with the clubs, replacing it with a National League featuring the top six teams from the 2023 ‘A’ Division League and four sides from the ongoing ANFA President’s League in Hetauda.
ANFA had also declared that the next ‘A’ Division League would not take place before December 18, 2026.
Protesting against the decision, the Nepal Football Players Association (NFPA), led by president Bikram Lama staged a sit-in at ANFA headquarters on November 6. The NFPA had warned that it would continue its protest if the ‘A’ Division League was not guaranteed within a week.
