Gokarna to host season-opening Surya Nepal Golf Tour
Kathmandu: Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2025–26 is set to tee off on Monday, with the Nepal Professional Golf Association (NPGA) unveiling its annual calendar featuring eight events.
The season-opening Surya Nepal Central Open will begin on Monday at Gokarna Golf Club, NPGA General Secretary Deepak Acharya announced at a press conference in Tripureshwar on Saturday.
The Central Open carries a total purse of Rs 1.05 million, with the winner set to take home Rs 170,000.
Of the eight tour events, five will be staged in Kathmandu—three at the Royal Nepal Golf Club (RNGC) and two at Gokarna. The Kathmandu Open, NPGA Match Play, and Surya Nepal Challenge will be played at RNGC, while Gokarna will host the season opener Central Open and the season-ending Premiere Golf Championship.
The remaining three events will be held outside the capital including the Eastern Open in Dharan, the NPGA Tour Championship in Bardibas, and the Western Open in Pokhara.
Among the eight tournaments, the season-ending Premiere Golf Championship carries the highest purse of Rs 1.8 million. Overall, the tour offers a total prize pool of Rs 8.01 million.
Speaking at the event, NPGA President Rabindra Man Shrestha said the tour has reached a significant milestone completing 19 years, and has played a vital role in strengthening Nepal’s competitive golf landscape. He also thanked Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd for its continued support.
The Central Open will be played over 72 holes, with a cut applied after the first two rounds (36 holes). The top 18 professionals will advance to the final 36 holes, along with amateurs who make the pro-cut.
The runner-up will receive NPR 125,000, while the third, fourth, and fifth place finishers will earn NPR 100,000, NPR 82,000, and NPR 72,000 respectively. Prize money will be distributed among the top 18 professionals.
Current number one golfer Niraj Tamang, defending amateur champion Rahul Bishwakarma, and seasoned professionals Bhuwan Nagarkoti, Toran Sahhi, Dinesh Prajapati, Sanjay Lama, and Rabi Khadka are expected to be among the key contenders in a highly competitive field.
