Boxing and Muay Thai on Feb 21 & 22

Kathmandu: CGG Sports Hub is set to organise the Second Late Changya Gurung International Boxing and Muay Thai Championships on February 21 and 22 at Swayambhu, Kathmandu. 

 

The boxing event will see participation of pugilists from India and Bhutan along with hosts Nepal, informed Dorje Ghale, the event coordinator at a press conference on Thursday. Altogether 44 players will vie in different categories of boxing, said Deepak Maharjan, the technical director of boxing event.

 

The boys will compete in 54kg, 57kg and 60kg in the elite men’s category while the elite  section will feature competition in 57kg only. The men youth players will compete in 60kg division while women youth boxers will vie in the 57kg and 60kg division. The junior boys’ will vie in 54kg and 63kg divisions. 

 

Muay Thai will see participation of players from 21 teams across the country, said Sanjay Rai, the coordinator of Muay Thai. Altogether 76 players will compete in the full contact game. The men’s pro players will fight in the 45kg, 51kg, 55kg and 65kg weight categories. The women pro players will fight in 51kg category only. 

 

The men’s semi-pro will feature fights in 50kg, 55kg, 60kg, 65kg, 70kg and 75kg weight divisions while the women players will compete in 50kg, 55kg and 60kg weight divisions. Amateur male players will vie in the 50kg, 55kg and 60kg weight divisions. The female players will compete in 50kg and 55kg categories. 

 

According to the organisers, the winners of the pro events will be rewarded with cash prizes.
