Karateka Mohammed Shekhu Alam feted in New York
Kathmandu: Nepali karateka Mohammed Shekhu Alam has been honored by the Champions Martial Arts Club based in in New York, USA.
The Club presented him with a certificate of appreciation and a cash prize of $1,000. He was awarded by District 30 Assembly Member Steven Raga, according to club president Sunil Lama.
Shekhu is currently in the US to compete in the 2025 US Open Karate Championship and Junior International up scheduled from April 18 to 20 in Las Vegas. He will represent Nepal in the men’s under 84 kg weight category.
Shekhu has competed in 14 international tournaments, securing five gold, three silver, and two bronze medals. At the domestic level, he has earned nine gold, 1 silver, and 4 bronze medals.
The award ceremony was attended by several prominent members of the Nepali community including community leader Nawaraj KC, karate coaches Makendra Bahadur Singh, Janak Singh Khadka, and taekwondo coach Pushpa Thapa Magar.
According to president Lama, a gold medalist in both the 11th South Asian Games (SAG) and the 13th Asian Pacific Karate Championships, Champions Martial Arts Club USA is active in competitions and community service, and has been recognising individuals who have made significant contributions to martial arts and sports.
