Nepal-Bangladesh Women’s Test Kabaddi from Sunday

Kathmandu: All Nepal Kabaddi Association (ANKA) is set to organise a bilateral Women’s Kabaddi Test Series 2025 involving the national teams of hosts Nepal and Bangladesh in Satdobato, Lalitpur. 

Organising a press conference in Kathmandu on Friday, ANKA general secretary Arbind Kumar Jha informed that the five-day series will be played from April 20 to 25 at the Taekwondo covered hall. 

“We have come up with the concept of Test kabaddi at international level reaching an agreement with Bangladesh Kabaddi Association. As per the agreement Nepal and Bangladesh will host three Series each in a year,” said Jha adding that Nepal’s men team already visited Bangladesh from February 18 to 28 and played a five-day series and eventually lost 4-1.

“It will be the first Test Series involving the national women’s team of kabaddi,” said Jha adding that the Bangladesh team will arrive in Kathmandu on Saturday. 

Recalling that Nepal’s kabaddi team has achieved historic success in the past couple of years including the first ever team event bronze during the Asian Games in 2023, Jha said that both men’s and women’s team of Nepal were under closed camp from the last two years in Mulpani. 

“The women’s team is currently hold number three position in the global ranking and we are under full fledge preparation for the upcoming Women’s Kabaddi World Cup set to take place from June 1 to 13 in India,” said Jha. 

Meanwhile, media person and model Bibhusa Basnet was named brand ambassador of Kabaddi for a one year period during the press meet. “I hope we can play a role together for the development and promotion of kabaddi,” said Basnet following the announcement.
