Olympic Day celebrated in Kathmandu

Kathmandu: Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) on Monday celebrated Olympic Day 2025 in Kathmandu.

June 23 is globally observed as Olympic Day and NOC has been marking this occasion each year with different events. NOC organised a morning rally and cycle rally participated by officials of NOC, coaches, atheltes, referees and journalists.

The rally started from the southern side of Swayambhu Stupa and concluded at the Dallu covered hall. NOC president Jeevan Ram Shrestha inaugurated the rally.

NOC vice president and Olympic Day coordinator Ashok Ratna Bajracharya hoisted the national flag of Nepal while NOC president Shrestha hoisted the International Olympic Committee flag.

NOC general secretary Rajiv Shrestha said Olympic Day celebration was not just a a date on the calendar but a broader movement. “It is a movement that encourages us to engage in sports, lead a healthy and active life and promote physical activities,” said Shrestha.

NOC president Shrestha said: “The purpose of celebrating Olympic Day is to promote healthy living and peace. Olympic Day inspires us toward unity and peace.”

The event also saw performances from karate, wushu and judo players along with B-boying. Students of Galaxy School also showcased dance performances.
